No Where to Go But UP!

  • Watching: TRANSFORMERS
I am pleased to tell you all I just got back from seeing UP! I must tell you I came out of that theater asking myself one question "HOW DO THEY DO IT?" they ahve once again taken a seemingly mundan subject and turned it into GOLD!
This movie for all its marketing and trailers isn't one of the warm fuzzy movies like FINDING NEMO or MONSTERS INC.. PETER DOCTER who directed this film also directed MONSTERS INC. . He does have a way of developing a great sense of empathy and feeling for the characters. He understands off beat buddy movies.
This movie starts with a love story and is driven by a promise made between lovers. There is so much of a connection developed between the principle characters CARL and ELLIE. This connect is communicated with NO WORDS. it is done with the characters interactions and relationship through the years. Though there is no professing of "I LOVE YOU". You feel that with these two. With out giving to much about this movie (because trust me.. there is so many beautiful meaningful surprises) This movie is all about relationships. About honor and friendship and love. Then the generational bridge is crossed between a young scout RUSSELL and and an old CARL.
Now not to think that this movie is one deep message after another... there is a cast of quirky and lovable characters. These characters help to maintain a balance between the heavy pathos and the laughter. PIXAR once again relies on its set voice actors to help round out this movie.
I want to tell sdo much about this movie but there is a magic and emotional depth that to discribe it would robbing it of it's efforts as story telling and animations. All I can say is BRING THE KLEENEX!
Also not to have to much heavy emotion the animated short before hand PARTLY CLOUDY is HILARIOUS!!!!

Oh here we go again.
Wow, great gallery!

Uh, can I ask you for some advice?

I have been trying to learn to draw caricatures, but i'm stuck, i don't know what to do. I can´t get the features of the face, unless I copy it realisticly, as a portrait. And because of this, I can't exagerate et properly.

What do you recommend me to improve?

Thanks :)

There is a great book by Len Reddman on the art of caricature. The accuracy of the features is a very key part of the process, It is then a matter of working with the relative proportions. You must thing of it in a sense of VISUAL weight and proportion. Not to mention one of the other elements that isnt discussed it "emphasis". in order for one feature to stand out against another you must "deemphasize" the others relative to it. If you like we can correspond on a more lengthy intervals.
hope this sheds some light.
Ok, I had read a bit about the visual weight, and the proportion I already had supossed that was necessary, and emphatize a characteristic feature of the face too, but is the first time I hear about "deemphasize" the other features relative to it. Ok, I'll try to aplicate it and then I'll show you some works.

Thanks a lot! :thanks:

PD: I'll have to try to get Lenn's book through Amazon, the book's shop here (including comic shops) doesn't have a shit.
